Volunteer Support

Volunteers are utilized throughout the Child Study Center in various capacities. Adult and teen volunteers provide knowledge, skills, talents and extra enthusiasm that support the everyday operation of the Center's work.

Volunteer Opportunities

Classroom Aide – The Child Study Center School serves approximately 55 children ages 3 to12 with developmental differences. Classrooms are limited to 14 students allowing for the individualized attention important to their success. Volunteers assist the teacher with classroom activities. Shifts are generally 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. one day a week during the school year and summer program. OR…facilitate a special project, such as:

Music/Art: Provide a music/art project once a week/month to a classroom.

Special Talent or Interest: Present a collection, musical instrument, object of interest, etc. to a classroom.

Read to children: Read a book(s) to children one day a week (teachers can provide several books from which to choose).

NIGrads Clinic (Neo-Natal Intensive Care Graduates) – Families and babies are scheduled for follow-up appointments. Volunteers are needed to make appointment reminder calls, provide general office assistance and assemble “baby packets” for families. Hours are flexible, weekends available.

Waiting Area Receptionist – Volunteers are needed to serve as receptionist in the Pediatric/Psychology waiting area. Volunteer duties include: greeting clients, answering phones, giving general information and overseeing children in the lobby area. Shifts are flexible.

Special Projects/Mailings – Volunteers are needed who are willing to be “on-call” to assist with mailings and special projects. Duties may include: labeling, folding, addressing, stuffing popcorn bags, etc., including take-home projects.

Children’s Golf Classic – Assistance is needed with the annual golf tournament held in April. Duties may include: registration, putting contest, sitting holes, solicitation of items for player bags, etc.

Party on the Patio – Annual “fiesta” at Joe T’s; includes live and silent auctions. Committee members needed to plan and organize this fun fundraising event.

Children’s Holiday Party and End of Year Picnic/Field Day – The Auxiliary sponsors an annual holiday party for the school each December and an end of year picnic in May. Volunteers are needed to oversee activity booths and serve refreshments.

Clerical/Office – Clerical and office assistance is needed to shred paper, file, make copies, data entry, assist in organizing Board meeting packets, etc. Hours are flexible.

Main Lobby Receptionist – Answer main number phone line and transfer calls as needed; greet clients and direct to areas within the building; mail sorting and distribution.
