Clinical Services

Psychology

The psychology staff provides expert diagnosis and treatment to children from birth through 21 years of age with developmental differences. Areas of expertise include:

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder

Autistic spectrum disorders

Behavioral disorders

Developmental delay

Developmental difficulties associated with genetic syndromes

Learning disabilities

Intellectual Disabilities

Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations include comprehensive review of historical information and school records, testing of intellectual and academic functioning, behavioral observations, and emotional and behavioral symptom ratings. Recommendations are given based on diagnostic impressions. Therapeutic interventions that may be available include individual therapy and parent training. Social skills groups may be offered periodically. Members of the psychology department are available to provide consultative services to children in the Child Study Center School.

Early identification and treatment are vital to improving the quality of life for a child with a developmental disability. The long-term effects of developmental disorders can impact every area of life. The Psychology Department strives to help each child reach his or her potential and enjoy a happy and productive life.
